First Joanne and Bob want to thank all of you for getting us to 72% of our needed support. We now need a mere $2,800.00 in monthly pledges and we can get onto language & church planting efforts in Spain. So a special “Muchas gracias” to all who have prayed and supported us thus far. Our church-planting team grows and assembles (so far on site: Charles, Carol DeWitt and family, Tom and Jan Courtney (associated) , Pamyla Burrack, and (partners) Nathan and his wife Amy Moser / completed itineration and now relocating to Madrid are David and Beth Bryan, Tyler and Julie Lenocker / itinerating Chery Flores, and the Tanzies.) Please pray for each of us by name.
Next, I want to relate to you the kind of front-line evangelism and disciple-making that we envision by this Divine Appointment. It’s related by Charles DeWitt, our Madrid Team leader who has been living in Spain for over a year now. Ivan Sanchez is a young university student who wanted to learn more about his Catholic faith which to this point had been pretty nominal. First he dusted off and began to read a copy of the New Testament that he found in his parent’s home. The “Luther” movie was playing so he attended a screening coming away much impressed with the great Reformer’s devotion to Christ. This inspired Ivan to read several biographies of Luther and then work through Luther’s Commentary on Romans. As his thirst for knowing God grew he began searching for a church that also shared a hunger for God’s Word. Charles tells it this way, “Then one day, while ambling around the downtown area of our community, he ‘chanced’ upon our little church (where the DeWitts currently worship). It is not easy to find, as it is tucked away on a side street, almost hidden. Ivan determined to visit the following Sunday to see what it would be like. …Since January, Ivan has not missed a single Tuesday night (bible study) gathering. It has been amazing and fun to watch Ivan’s hunger for the Word grow as we have worked our way through the Book of Mark. Every week he arrives with carefully written answers to our study questions. Just last Sunday, he shared how Psalm 119 had become his favorite Psalm because it expresses so passionately his desire to know God and God’s Word. Ivan is a young, vibrant, growing disciple of Christ! Thank you so much for your prayers for us and for Spaniards like Ivan who God is calling to himself. In some ways, Spain is a spiritual desert, but God has a plan for the Spanish people, and we count it a privilege to be part of that plan.” Well said. Pray for God’s moving in Spain. Pray that he would use us to strengthen his church in that land.
Sr. Ivan Sanchez
